The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) on Thursday appealed to the government and people of Ghana to take a hard and bold look at addressing the numerous problems bedevilling Ghanaian farmers and fishermen.
It said such efforts would boost food production and secure a healthy standard of living for the average farmer and fisherman.
A statement issued by Mr Richard Quayson, Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ in Accra said: "Let us remember that food production has developmental and security implications for the nation and assuring an adequate standard of living for those who break their backs to do so, amounts to under-writing our collective security."
The commission congratulated farmers and fishermen on the occasion of Farmers' Day celebration on Friday, December 4.
"Indeed, the critical role being played by our farmers in ensuring food security for the nation's growing population as well as contributing substantially to the export sector of the economy is highly commendable and worth celebrating, " it added.
