Ghana’s premier entertainment hotspot, Citizen Kofi, set to host the 2010 World Cup in collaboration with the South African High Commission in Ghana. The facility on Saturday officially launched the 'Citizen Kofi World Cup Viewing', a day Ghana's Black Stars snatched a sensational one goal victory over Latvia in London. Patrons had the opportunity to view the match live at the Citizen Kofi via Multi-TV. Managers of the facility say the World Cup Viewing is aimed at giving football fans in Ghana a much more thrilling atmosphere to enjoy the tournament. Contrary to perception that people have to pay a lot to enter the facility, organisers say the World Cup viewing is absolutely free and football fans can walk into any of the floors which will have screens for the viewing of the World Cup throughout the tournament. In attendance at the formal launch were Jeanette Ndhlovu, South African Commissioner designate, officials from the South African High Commission, sports personalities, journalists and football fans. Seth Miah, Marketing Manager, Citizen Kofi speaking in an interview with Myjoyonline.com after the launch, said their doors are opened for anyone who wants to support and cheer their teams to victory, adding that the World Cup Viewing is also “an opportunity for us to share ideas with our international brothers on how we can co-exist for a better world. Football brings people together and what a better way to bring people together to have a viewing like this.” Dipuo Tlali, Consular and Administration Attaché of the South Africa High Commission, also told Myjoyonline.com that South Africa is ready to give the world the best World Cup ever. She urged Ghanaians to partake in the World Cup viewing. “We plan that everything is going to happen here (Citizen Kofi) from the beginning to the end. We urge all Ghanaians to come here and support.” Asked of her prediction and the likelihood of an African country lifting the cup, she said, “positively speaking the trophy will stay in Africa”, hoping Ghana will lift it.
