The Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) in Takoradi, has assured the public that it has a lot of new coins available for traders and commercial drivers within the Central Region.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Takoradi on Tuesday, Mr. Ebenezer Ntreh, Takoradi Area Manager of the GCB, said the bank had started exchanging new coins to the people at lorry stations, markets and other vantage points in the city.
He said the assertion by some people that there was shortage of new coins in the system was false and that the bank had decided to send the coins in smaller denominations to vantage points instead of waiting for people to come for them at the banks.
Mr. Ntreh appealed to Ghanaians to patronise the coins since they were durable than the notes and advised people to keep their moneys in wallets and purses to keep them clean.
He advised the public, particularly traders to handle notes with care to and said the banks would exchange old the currency for the new ones.
