Opoku Mensah, a 22-year old commercial driver was on Wednesday remanded into prison custody when brought before the Mamponteng magistrate court for attempted defilement.
He was to re-appear on May 16.
Police Inspector Osmar Nai-Agyemang told the court, presided over by Mrs Aliata Saeed that the victim, a 14-year old class six pupil of the Kasaam local authority basic school was on March 17, this year, sent by her father to buy some drugs at a pharmacy shop at Kasaam at about 1930 hours.
He told the court that whilst on her way back home, Mensah, who was trailing the victim called her and demanded to know why she had many occasions failed to respond to his proposal.
The prosecutor said before the victim could give any answer, the accused held her hand, gagged her and forcibly wanted to have sex with her after dragging her into an uncompleted building but he discharged on the victim’s skirt as she struggled to free herself.
Inspector Nai-Agyemang told the court that as a passer-by who heard the victim screaming went to her aid, Mensah sensing danger ran away and went into hiding at Dumakwai but was later arrested and after investigations and charged with the offence.
The prosecution said even though medical reports on the victim did not indicate that there was penetration, the semen allegedly discharged on the victim’s skirt had been sent to the forensic laboratory to determine whether it is the accused’s or not.
