Egypt manager Bob Bradley has selected 23 local-based players for next month’s World Cup qualifying playoff against Ghana.
The list, which comprises no less than 11 members of the Ahli team, will be joined by 10 foreign-based players named by the Egypt management earlier this week.
Bradley’s choices included some changes to the squad that faced Guinea this month, with Zamalek goalkeeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed and center-half Mahmoud Fathallah left out.
Masri’s Ahmed Al-Shennawi returned to replace Abdul-Wahed, while defender Ahmed Saied ‘Ouka’, who returned to Wadi Degla after a loan spell at Belgium’s Lierse, was called up for Fathallah.
Ismaili veteran Mohamed Sobhi replaced Ahli youngster Mosaad Awad as one of two backup goalkeepers for number one Sherif Ekrami.
Zamalek’s flamboyant forward Mohamed Ibrahim was recalled after being dropped from the previous squad.
The Egypt squad will enter a closed camp on Wednesday in preparation for the October 15 clash in Kumasi as one warm-up game is expected to take place within the next two weeks.
Bradley is expected to drop a handful of players ahead of the Black Stars meeting.
