South Africa-based Pay TV channel SuperSport has announced signing a three-year television rights deal for the Ghana Premier League.
SuperSport has also secured the rights to produce and telecast matches for the Ghana FA Cup.
Although the financial details are unknown, it is expected that the new TV deal is an improvement of the US$ 1.05 million local firm Optimum Media Prime (OMP) paid three years ago.
“Ghana has a tremendous football tradition and continues to produce great players, so we are delighted with this development,” SuperSport head of Africa Andre Venter said.
“The game in Ghana is strong and vibrant and we look forward to showcasing it on our channels.”
This means Sunday’s Ghana Premier League derby between Hearts and Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium will be telecast live at 15:00 GMT.
Last month, SuperSport has signed a four-year TV deal worth US$34 million for the Nigeria Premier League.
