The Constitution Review Committee has announced its plans to engage with various stakeholders and the general public across the country as part of its ongoing constitutional review process.
These engagements will take two forms: targeted consultations with specific stakeholders on key constitutional matters, and open-ended zonal engagements for the wider public.
Targeted Stakeholder Consultations:
To facilitate these consultations, the Committee is inviting written contributions from a wide range of stakeholders, including experts in particular areas, relevant public institutions, professional bodies, trade unions, civil society organisations, political parties, and members of the public.
The consultations will focus on a variety of themes, and stakeholders are encouraged to submit their views by the following deadlines:
- Lands and Natural Resources: Submission by March 12
- Decentralisation, Local Government & Chieftaincy: Submission by March 12
- Public Services and Enterprises: Submission by March 15
- Executive Advisory Councils (Council of State, IGP, Police Service Council, Armed Forces Service Council, National Security Council): Submission by March 20
- Independent Constitutional Bodies/Offices: Submission by March 20
- Directive Principles of State Policy, Social and Economic Rights, and NDPC: Submission by March 20
- Political Parties: Submission by March 20
- Political Branches (Executive & Legislature): Submission by March 20
- The Judiciary: Submission by March 20
- Other areas (Finance, Central Bank, Public Debt Management, Discretionary Power, Dual Citizenship, Amendment Procedure): Submission by March 20
Zonal Public Engagements:
Alongside the targeted consultations, the Committee will hold zonal engagement sessions in various regions to allow for broader public participation.
These national validation meetings will take place on the following dates and locations:
Zone 1 - Accra: 7-8 April
Zone 2 - Tamale/Bolgatanga: 10-11 April
Zone 3 - Wa: 14-15 April
Zone 4 - Kumasi: 22-23 April
Zone 5 - Takoradi/Cape Coast: 25-26 April
Zone 6 - Koforidua: 29-30 April
Zone 7 - Ho: 5-6 May
The Committee encourages all relevant parties, organisations, and individuals to participate in these engagements and to submit their opinions, ensuring that the review process is inclusive and representative of diverse views from across the nation.
