The management of St. Monica’s Senior High School at Mampong in Ashanti Region has called on stakeholders to support the construction of a modern ICT and library facility for the school.

Headmistress of the school, Dr. Cynthia Asamoah Gyimah made this appeal during the official launch of the school’s 80th anniversary celebrations.

St. Monica’s Senior High School in the Ashanti region has officially launched its 80th anniversary celebrations under the theme, “Eighty Years of Girls’ Empowerment: Educating Generations and Transforming Lives.”

The milestone not only commemorates eight decades of academic achievement, but also highlights the institution’s enduring commitment to discipline, faith, and selfless service.

A key highlight of the launch was the unveiling of an modern ICT and library project, designed to equip students for the demands of 21st-century learning and the digital age.

The facility is designed to enhance the school’s academic environment and equip students with essential digital skills.

Headmistress Dr. Cynthia Asamoah Gyimah, speaking at the event, underscored the anniversary theme as a reflection of the transformative power of girls’ education.

“Eighty Years of Girls’ Empowerment: Educating Generations and Transforming Lives” highlights the transformative power of educating the girl-child. By educating the girl-child, we make it possible for her to grow up to become an empowered woman”. She said

She noted that, over the past eighty years, St. Monica’s has played a pivotal role in breaking the cycle of poverty, empowering future leaders, and driving community development.

“The impact of 80 years of girls’ empowerment: educating generations and transforming lives, has contributed greatly to break the cycle of poverty, empower future leaders and drive community development”, she highlighted.

Dr. Gyimah called on all stakeholders to support the completion of the ICT and library project, emphasizing its importance in preparing students for future challenges.

“I am making a passionate appeal to all stakeholders to support management and SMOSA-GLOBAL desire of getting an ultra-modern ICT and Library complex for the school”, she concluded.

Ashanti Regional Director of Ghana Education Service (GES), Dr. William Amankra Appiah, highlighted the critical need to expand educational opportunities for girls.

“Usually women are the home makers, so if they are educated you will see that the children are more enlightened, they also live after their mother. So the more we educate them, the more enlightened the nation is.”, he said.

He encouraged students to pursue studies in science and technology fields, noting that women are achieving significant success in disciplines such as medicine, biomedicine, and engineering.

“Education of women is not only vocational. There are women who are doing science and they are doing better than men. We are encouraging our women also to go into that venture; science, medicine, biomedicine so that we can have enough women in that sector”, he explained.

The launch event was attended by prominent government officials, traditional leaders, and distinguished alumnae, all gathered to celebrate the school’s legacy and ongoing impact on girls’ education in Ghana.
