The Presbyterian University Ghana (PUG) has held its 17th congregation. The 2023 graduating class were the first to earn their degrees since PUG transitioned from a University College to a fully-fledged University.
In all, 557 undergraduates comprising 256 males and 301 females graduated this year. Out of the total number of graduands, 59 of them are postgraduates with about 40% of them being female.

In his address, the vice-chancellor of the university, Prof. John Ofosu-Anim charged the graduands to use the knowledge and skills acquired to contribute to the socio-economic development of their respective nations.

“You are about to step into a world filled with both opportunities and challenges. The knowledge and skills you have gained here are the keys that will unlock the doors to your future.”
He further commended the 2023 graduating class for their dedication and efforts invested in their academic journey with a special recognition for the 11 pioneering law students of the University who were called to the Bar last October.
The Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Prof. Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mantey called for the inclusion of entrepreneurship in tertiary education curricula.

According to Professor Mantey, a conscious effort is required through the educational system to instill the habit of creating decent businesses after the completion of school.
“So it beats my imagination that people finish the university without learning about entrepreneurship. All universities should have entrepreneurship as part of their general courses so that nobody leaves the university in search of white-collar jobs,” he said.
He added that this will be key to reducing the high unemployment and dependency rate in the country.
