Efforts to improve the water supply system at the campus of the Valley View University and its surrounding communities geared up on Wednesday in Accra when a couple donated 30 pieces of 30ft PVC water pipes worth 13.5 Million cedis to the institution.
Mr. Albert Sowah and Mrs. Shirley Sowah who donated the pipes said they were touched by the plight of the residents on campus and the surrounding communities in Oyibi.
Mrs Sowah who is an alumnus of the school said she faced the acute water shortages when she was on campus and knows the enormity of the problem.
Mrs. Sowah appealed to parents, Non Governmental Organisations, the alumni and other philanthropists to assist the school to improve upon its infrastructure.
Mrs. Sowah said the gesture is to complement the efforts of the University authorities in providing infrastructural development, adding ”this is not the first and the last donation, we will continue to support the school”.
Receiving the pipes, Dr. Seth Laryea, the President of Valley View University said the pipes will be used to extend the Oyibi area Water Supply project to other needy areas.
Dr. Lydia Andrews, Head of the Department of Nursing appealed for assistance in setting up a laboratory for the students.
Another alumnus, Professor Enoch Damson, Associate Professor of Computer Science at Akron University in the United States also offered to reward his alma mater through free teaching and curriculum development for a whole semester.
