A Fast-Track High Court in Accra has issued a warrant for the arrest of one of two lawyers who allegedly defrauded two businessmen of about $800,000.
The action of the court follows Mr Ekow Amuah-Sekyi’s failure to appear in court Monday after he had been served with a criminal summons by an officer of the court.
His lawyer denied they received the writ and therefore prayed the court not to issue the bench warrant.
But the court held that the police investigator who personally submitted the writ to the accused could not have lied.
Mr. Amuah-Sekyi and a colleague, Joseph Kwame Asumanin, allegedly forged a court document and used it to dupe Sam Adu and Kwame Opoku of the said amount.
Joy News’ Araba Koomson who sat through court proceedings said Sam Adu did not also appear before the court but sent a letter to the judge explaining he was indisposed.
But the judge was unhappy with the move arguing such letters ought to have medical reports attached in order for them to be admissible.
Counsel for the plaintiffs, Joe Debrah said issuing the warrant for the arrest of Amuah-Sekyi was a victory for due process.
He was optimistic that at the end of the day justice will be done to both parties - the plaintiff and the defendants.
