Mr Richmond Lamptey, presidential campaign manager for the Convention People’s Party (CPP) at the weekend said the party would 'shock' many people in this year’s elections, judging by the high level of support it now enjoyed among Ghanaians. “Effective organisation is going on so well in all the polling stations throughout the country, that when ballots are counted in December people will be shocked”, he told newsmen at Wa. He said this after he had toured the Upper West Region to monitor and evaluate the performance of the party functionaries in the Region. Mr Lamptey said the CPP was targeting about 30 per cent of the presidential votes, which according to him would be enough to throw the elections into a second round. “We are working towards achieving 30 per cent of the total presidential votes to place second for either the New Patriotic Party or the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to join Dr Nduom to form the next government. Mr Lamptey advised the NDC to stop using the CPP’s “yere sesamu” slogan and its accompanying finger gestures as it was not for them, saying, if they wanted to join the CPP they were welcome. “It is characteristic of the NDC to steal everything and make it their own. “Their 'NDC No Size' slogan did not catch so they have come for ours,” he said. “They did a similar thing to the NPP by stealing their 'hwe wo asetenam slogan'." The CPP Presidential Campaign Manager denied reports in some newspapers that their parliamentary candidate for Walewale constituency in the Northern Region had defected to the NPP. He said Mr Ahmed Issahaka who is alleged to have defected was the CPP candidate during the 2004 election, adding that, their party was yet to elect a candidate for the constituency for this year’s election.
