A Chartered Management Consultant, Safura Mohammed Suraj, has hailed Ghana’s Computerized School Selection Placement System (CSSPS) as one of the best educational reforms in Ghana.
She described the process as simple, easy, and convenient after her personal experience of getting her daughter enrolled at Wesley Girls Senior High School in Cape Coast in the Central Region.
Speaking to Mark Abisah on Suncity Radio in Sunyani, Tuesday, 5th April 2022, the consultant, who is also the Senior Assistant Registrar at the Sunyani Technical University, observed that the system offers equal opportunity for children from both poor and rich backgrounds to be admitted into the school of their choice.
“With CSSPS, you can be selected into any school of your choice provided you have the requisite qualification, as it doesn’t matter the village you live in or the parents you have”, she said.
Safura Mohammed Suraj opined that the system may have its challenges just as any other system elsewhere, but the kind of relief it has brought to parents and guardians must never be overlooked under any circumstances.
She recalled the time when parents and guardians had to wander the corridors of several headmasters and headmistresses in search of admission for their wards.
“The sort of frustrations parents went through during those times, no parent, guardian, or child should be made to suffer that fate again”, she stressed.
Safura Mohammed Suraj further called on President Akufo-Addo to ignore calls by some individuals, who may have no idea what the situation used to be before one could get a prospectus after junior high school education, to have such a laudable initiative altered, but rather work to improve the shortcomings.
She also said parenting has now gone beyond stocking the fridge with food and drinks, stating that parents should make time to guide their children in both school selection and career choices.
