Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu, the nominee for the Asante Mampong Paramount Stool, officially swore the oath of allegiance to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace on Monday, January 19, 2026.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, he was formally gazetted as the Asante Mamponghene and assumed the stool name Daasebre Osei Bonsu III, becoming the new Paramount Chief of Asante Mampong.
During the ceremony, chiefs from the various divisions of the Asante Kingdom urged the new Mamponghene to uphold peace, unity, and cooperation as key pillars for the development of Asante Mampong.

They also cautioned him to remain firm against illegal mining activities on his land, a stance strongly upheld by his predecessor, the late Daasebre Osei Bonsu II.
Daasebre Osei Bonsu III pledged to walk in the footsteps of his predecessor and work tirelessly to promote development and stability in the traditional area.
He becomes the 17th occupant of the Asante Mampong Silver Stool, a position regarded as second-in-command within the Asante Kingdom in the absence of the Asantehene.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Adom News reporter Kwadwo Obeng Mireku interacted with some queen mothers of the Mampong Traditional Council, who expressed confidence in the new chief’s leadership.
"We want peace, unity, and development from him as he ascends the throne. We believe in him and we are ready to support him,” one of the queen mothers stated.
The kingmakers of Asante Mampong, together with the Mampong Queen Mother, officially presented Leslie Nkansah Osei Bonsu to the Asantehene as the nominated candidate for the Mampong throne on December 18, 2025.
