The National Women's Organizer of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Otiko Afisa Djaba has challenged President John Dramani Mahama to demonstrate his commitment in the fight against corruption, both in and outside government.

She believes that President Mahama is doing little in the fight against corruption in the country, and this has resulted in hardship for the ordinary Ghanaian.

Otiko Djaba was speaking Monday on Adom FM's “Dwaso Nsem” morning show with Captain Smart.

“The presidency and the entire executive should demonstrate their will in fighting corruption as promised the people of Ghana during the campaign season,” Otiko Afisa Djaba lamented.

Recently, speaking at the 4th Commonwealth Regional Conference for Heads of Anti-Corruption Agencies in Africa, President Mahama charged the new board of the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) to respond to the various allegations of corruption against the authority.

The president reconstituted the SADA board after the Auditor General released a damning report on the misappropriation of funds at the authority and also assured that various actions have been taken on the allegations of impropriety in other agencies as well but Otiko Djaba believes the president should walk the talk.

President Mahama also directed the Attorney General’s Department to pursue the refund of monies paid illegally in the implementation of the Ghana Youth Employment and Enterpreneurship Programme (GYEEDA), which has been rocked by allegations of corruption.

But months gone by, “Who is monitoring the Attorney General’s department to pursue the president’s directive?” Otiko Djaba asked.

“Have those who were involved in the GYEEDA scandal paid the monies with interest or what?”

Ms Djaba also expressed worry over why investigations into corruption allegations are not made public.

In response, a member of the NDC communication team, Alhaji Halidu Haruna has challenged the NPP Women’s Organiser to lead a crusade against alleged misappropriation of funds and corruption during ex-President John Agyekum Kufuor’s regime.

The member of the NDC communications team stressed that President John Mahama is committed to fight corruption in government and urged Ghanaians to support him.
