The Savannah Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to residents of Gonja to take advantage of the demise of their overlord, Yagbonwura Sulemana Tuntumba Bore Essa I and his funeral to maintain the relative peace in Damongo.
He also urged them to enhance unity and not petty politicking.
Iddrisu Sulemana also appealed to the youth, especially those from the NPP and National Democratic Congress (NDC) to desist from turning the funeral grounds of the late overlord into a political campaign grounds as that might cause tensions leading to disunity, among others.

"My message is simple and short and that is, anybody who is a true son or daughter of Gonjaland and hearing me, should not think of coming to play politics at the funeral grounds tomorrow.
"Yes, some of us including those who are planning to contest the election this year, will be tempted to turn Yagbonwura's funeral into a campaign platform but that will not only create confusion or tension, but as a sign of disrespect to our late King and the culture of Gonja", Iddrisu Sulemana stressed.
The NPP Regional Chairman stated that the late King was a peaceful figure in nature and appealed to those who want to pay their last respect to the King to do so with respect and in peace.

Mr Iddrisu Sulemana who said this in a press briefing in Damongo in the West Gonja Municipality added that, "as you can see me and my executives here, we have pledged for peace, and so we'll not play politics or do anything untoward at the King's funeral using the day as an avenue for political campaigns and I have warned the youth from the two main political parties (NDC & NPP) to also desist from same."
