The Deputy CEO of the Ghana Digital Centres Limited (GDCL), Christine Ansong, has applauded the latest economic figures showing strong expansion in Ghana’s Information and Communication subsector, describing it as clear evidence that the government’s digitalisation agenda is yielding tangible results.
Her comments follow Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson’s presentation of the 2026 Budget, during which he announced that the subsector recorded 17.2 per cent growth, up from 16.5 per cent in 2024.
“The Information and Communication sub-sector grew by an impressive 17.2 per cent, up from 16.5 per cent in 2024,” Dr. Ato Forson told Parliament, noting that the sector remains one of the most dynamic contributors to national GDP.
He attributed the growth to rising data consumption, rapid expansion in fintech services, and sustained investment in digital infrastructure, factors he said reflect the success of policies anchored on building a modern, technology-driven economy.
Reacting to the news, Ms. Ansong said the figures confirm that Ghana’s digital transformation efforts, particularly those targeting youth skills development and tech entrepreneurship, are beginning to pay off.
She added that the government’s renewed focus on Regional Digital Centres, the One Million Coders Programme, and broader digital inclusion strategies will further strengthen the sector’s performance in the coming years.
According to Ms. Ansong, the GDCL will continue working with the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation to expand innovation spaces, support startups, and ensure that the benefits of the booming digital economy reach every region.
