The cruelty of some medical practitioners which sometimes leads to loss of innocent souls was brought to bear at the Cocoa Clinic at Bubuashie in Accra on 2nd December, 2010, when the Doctor on duty, one Dr. Osei, allegedly refused to attend to a patient.
The patient and the husband alleged that several calls by the two nurses on duty to call the doctor’s attention at the time proved futile and so they had no option than to go home unattended to.
The husband of the victim, Pastor Evans Essumin, who narrated the ordeal to Asempa News, stated that, on the said date, he rushed his wife to the Cocoa Clinic at about 2:30am after she complained of stomach ache.
Pastor Essumin said that they met two nurses by names Regina and Emmanuel who attend to them but they needed the doctor to prescribe a medication but several calls and banging on the doctor’s office door, would not persuade him to come out.
He alleged that they sat there for almost an hour, but Dr. Osei allegedly did not attend to them.
He alleged that the Dr. Osei instructed the nurses to inject the wife, even though she ha not been diagnosed yet.
Officials at the Cocoa Clinic confirmed the incident to Asempa News.
The Administrator, Gyau Mensah admitted that a complaint of such nature has been reported to him.
He explained that the Clinic has invited the two parties for a meeting after which likely disciplinary measures will be taken against the said Dr. Osei. “He has made complain. My director has also listen to those who were on duty by then, so the two parties, that is the, aggrieved and the Clinic must meet and see what transpired”.
He added that “because we are service delivery Clinic, we don’t entertain such things. These attitudes are still in our medical professionals”.
Mr. Mensah explained that the Director of the Hospital had already
ordered him [Mr. Mensah] to apologize to Pastor Essumin on behalf of the Clinic if such thing happened, but they would meet and see action to be taking.
