A60-year-old unemployed man, Obu Nartey from Adjikpo, a suburb of Somanya, has been remanded at the Akuse prisons for defiling a nine-year-old girl. The facts as presented to the Odumase-Krobo Circuit Court by the prosecutor, Inspector Monica Anku, were that on November 4,2010, at about 8.00 a.m. the victim whilst on the way to school met Nartey, who asked her to accompany him to a nearby farm. The victim refused and tried to run away but Nartey chased her and caught her and carried her into a nearby cassava farm and forcibly slept with her.The prosecutor said the victim attempted to shout for help but Nartey covered her mouth with his palm, there by prevented her from shouting.A witness in the case, who was then going to his farm in the company of his dogs, heard the dogs barking in the bush and when he got closer to see what was happening, he saw Nartey sleeping with the victim. As soon as the witness saw them, he shouted on the accused person who quickly got up and took to his heels.Inspector Anku said the witness chased Nartey but he managed to escape. The witness therefore returned for the victim and took her to her school and narrated the incident to the headteacher. The victim's father was informed and he reported the case to the police and was given a medical form to send the victim to hospital for examination and treatmentThe prosecutor said the police; with the help of the victim and the witness, arrested Nartey at his hide out.He however pleaded not guilty when he appeared before tile court, presided over by Mr. Asmah Akwasi Asiedu.Source: The Mirror/Ghana
