An Accra Circuit Court has found Dr Sulley Ali-Gabass guilty of defiling a 16-year old and has sentenced him to 25 years imprisonment.
Dr. Gabass was however aquitted and discharged on the second count of unnatural carnal knowledge.
The judge said contrary to claims by the Defence that the victim is an adult, there was evidence of school records that confirms the victim is below 18 years.
The judge, Rita Budu, said the maximum sentence was imposed to serve as a deterent to others who may want to indulge in same.
Family members looked disappointed and at some point, heckled a Metro TV camera man. The family believes the media have been unfair to their relative. They refused to speak to the media.
The Takoradi-based doctor walked out of court smiling on his way to begin his sentence. But his wife who had bowed her head throughout proceedings Monday was left in uncontrollable tears.
Joy News broke the story in October last year about the sexual encounters between Dr Sulley Ali-Gabass and the minor.
An investigative piece by Joy News' Manasseh Azure-Awuni revealed how on five occasions the medical doctors defiled the minor in his car and his house at Alajo.

When Manasseh confronted him, he admitted to sodomising the victim but when the case was sent to court, he entered a not guilty plea.
The victim as a result of sexual encounters had his anal region completely destroyed and had to a surgery to repair the damage. The victim was also diagnosed with HIV-AIDS but Ali Gabass told the court he did not infect him with the HIV because he is negative.
Manasseh Azure Awuni who broke the story recalled when he first met the victim in the surgical ward of the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital in October last year, the boy felt hopeless: He could neither sit nor lie on his back.
Apart from the pain from his anal surgery, the 16-year-old-boy alleged that a number of sexual encounters with Dr Ali-Gabass resulted in the injury to his anus and the HIV infection.
In court, Gabass denied defiling the minor and infecting him with the HIV but the judge found him guilty of defilement and handed him the maximum sentence.
