The presidential candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Dr Edward Mahama says he and his party feel betrayed by the Convention People’s Party’s early announcement of an alliance between the two parties.Dr Mahama said following the deal two weeks ago, both parties were required to further consult their rank and file before a formal announcement. The chairmen of both parties were required to jointly append their signatures. His comment follows his party’s decision to annul the alliance on Wednesday.Speaking at a news conference in Accra, Dr Mahama said both parties had proposed salient modifications that had to be looked at before a public announcement of the alliance.Explaining the issues further, Joy News’ Benard Saibu said the CPP had proposed going to the polls on the ticket of the PNC in the event that Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom – from the CPP – becomes the flag bearer. He said his party members were shocked when they woke up to the news the following day that the two parties had reached an alliance, adding that the PNC was presented as a subordinate, instead of partner, to the CPP.Meanwhile John Ndebugri, Member of Parliament (MP) for Zibilla who was one of the first PNC members to kick against the alliance, told Joy News that he feels vindicated. He said the alliance was bound to fail because the deal was reached without the backing of ordinary party members.Mr Ndebugri said although he supports an electoral alliance for the party, greater consultation is needed.Meanwhile key members of the CPP say although they are yet to be formally informed about the position of the PNC they are shocked the decision of the PNC.
