Police in the Eastern Region have arrested a 33-year-old driver, Nicholas Asare, for allegedly carrying 64 bags of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp.

The Eastern Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent, Edward Faakye-Kumi said the suspect was arrested on a tip off at about 5:30 am, Tuesday at Kpong on his way from Atinpoku to Accra.

He also had 29 bags of poultry feed packed at the back of a Mercedes Benz truck with a registration number AW 138-15 to outwit Police.

After a search was conducted by the police, the bags containing the substances believed to be Indian hemp were discovered and the driver was arrested.

A total of about 4589 parcels of Indian hemp were contained in all 64 bags.

The Crime Officer added that the suspects will be thoroughly investigated and arraigned before court for prosecution.
