The Madina District Court fined a driver GH¢900 for discharging a sizeable quantity of concrete onto the Madina-Adenta Highway, endangering and obstructing road users.
Solomon Tawiah pleaded guilty to three charges involving the placement of construction materials and equipment on the road, causing danger to a road user and obstructing an intersection or pedestrian crossing.
A statement issued and signed by Chief Superintendent of Police Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs, Accra Region, said the court imposed a penalty of 25 units, equivalent to GH¢300, for each of the three charges.
It said the sentences were to run consecutively, bringing the total fine to GH¢900.
The statement said the Madina Divisional Police Command, through its Motor Traffic and Transport Department, secured Tawiah’s conviction after arraigning him before the court.
It said the incident occurred on Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, when a Mercedes-Benz concrete mixer truck belonging to Betonsa Ghana Limited, with registration number GE 4891-14, discharged a sizeable quantity of concrete onto the main Madina-Adenta Highway, about 100 metres from the Zongo Junction Traffic Light, before leaving the scene.
The statement said police personnel from the division proceeded to the location and commenced investigations after receiving information about the incident.
“Further enquiries led the police to the premises of Betonsa Ghana Limited at Spintex, where the Transport Manager was engaged,” the statement said.
It said on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2026, the Transport Manager brought Tawiah to the Police, after which he was charged.
The Madina Divisional Police Command commended members of the public for providing information that enabled the Police to respond to the incident.
It reminded drivers and transport operators that their actions on roads “can have serious consequences for the safety of other road users.”
