President Akufo-Addo has praised the Ghana Police Service for the improvement in traffic flow on various roads in the regional capitals.
Singling out the success of protecting lives and properties and reducing road crashes, the President commended personnel of the Ghana Police Service for their service to the country.
The Ghana Police Service, under the leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has embarked on a transformation agenda, aimed at positioning the Service to become one of the best institutions in the country, and a model institution for the rest of the world.
According to President Akufo-Addo, deployment of personnel of the Police MTTD at various traffic stops has improved the adherence to traffic regulations by drivers and motorists in recent times as compared to previous years.
“Mr Speaker, we continue to pay attention to the Police Service. We can now see more of the Police on our streets, in the urban areas.
“Ever so gradually, driving on our roads is becoming more orderly, I note that even motorbike riders now stop at traffic lights, things are improving”, President Akufo-Addo said when presenting the State of the Nation address to Parliament on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo on Monday, August 15, 2022, presented 1,500 motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service at an event at the Police Headquarters.
The presentation of the bikes, the President said, “is yet a further affirmation of the commitment of the Akufo-Addo government to provide the Police Service with the necessary logistics it requires, to help the Service continue to effect its mandate of maintaining law and order, and protecting lives and property.”
President Akufo-Addo added that a housing unit has been constructed for the Police Service to boost their operations.
He, however, said that the newly acquired helicopters by the Service will help boost the confidence of the general public in modern-day crime fighting.
“504 housing units comprising 72 one bedrooms and 432 self-contained units have been completed for the Police Service. Recently, I delivered one hundred pickups, 600 motor bicycles and six armored personnel carriers to the Police Service to boost operational capacity.
"For the first time in our nation’s history, the Police Service has dedicated helicopters to help with this operation”, President Akufo-Addo said.
