The Drobo Traditional Council in the Bono Region has imposed a fine of GHC6,000 and six sheep on any social media user who re-shares or circulates nude videos and pictures of young women from the area.
Some explicit images and videos involving young women from Drobo have recently surfaced and gone viral on social media.
The council, presided over by Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II, the Paramount Chief of the Drobo Traditional Area in the Jaman South Municipality, emphasized that sharing, resharing, or circulating the videos and pictures constitutes an offense.
Addressing a news conference at Drobo, Nana Ama Foriwaa II, the Krontihemaa (sub-queen) of the Traditional Council, condemned what she described as the “illicit re-sharing and circulation” of the videos on social media.
Describing the incident as unfortunate and unacceptable, Nana Foriwaa II stated, “These nude contents have brought shame to the victims, their families, the community, and the Traditional Council.”
Nana Abena Tamea, the Gyaasehemaa (sub-queen), also condemned the videos and pictures, describing the practice as taboo in the area.
She cautioned the youth in the area to be wary of what they circulate or share on social media so as not to be found wanting.
Background
A leaked intimate video featuring two well-known individuals from Drobo has caused a stir in the community, prompting the traditional council to impose a strict ban on its circulation.
The controversial footage involves a young man believed to be in his late 20s and a woman in her mid-20s, capturing their private encounter in a room.
The video, reportedly recorded by the woman using her own mobile phone, shows the two engaging in an intimate act.
Following the encounter, the explicit video mysteriously found its way onto the internet. The circumstances surrounding its release remain unclear, sparking widespread speculation within the community.
Though the identities of both individuals have been withheld, they are said to be well-known figures in Drobo. Since the video went viral, their presence in town has been minimal, and their current whereabouts remain unknown.
In response to the scandal, the Drobo Traditional Council has taken firm action by banning the video’s circulation to prevent further public exposure.
They have warned that anyone found distributing the footage will face severe consequences as prescribed by traditional authority.
Meanwhile, local authorities are reportedly monitoring the situation closely as concerns over cyber violations continue to grow.
