The Project Manager for the ‘Ahotɔ’, Abass Sabutey, has explained why Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), funded the 'ahotɔ’ project.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on Thursday, he said Dr Duffuor’s aim in funding the project is to ensure that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) goes back to the opposition.
He noted that to achieve this aim; there is the need “to have a party with good human and financial resources with a strategy to be able to send the elephant back to the bush.”
Dr Duffuor, during the launch, donated and funded the project with a sum of ¢8,280,000 and presented 100 plastic chairs, four sets of canopies and a set of public address systems to the constituency executives.
The items will be rented out for social events to raise funds to support party activities at the various branches.
When asked whether Dr Duffuor expected something in return, Mr Sabutey said, “it isn’t the case that Dr Duffuor wants to take something back from the party..He has been doing this for the party without expecting any return.”
According to him, the intention is to ensure that the NDC is well resourced and capable of winning elections.
“Dr Duffuor is doing this to resource the party at the local level, and he has it clear, and I am glad it was a public event, and all those statements were made so it wouldn’t be the case that Dr intends to take something back from the party,” he added.
He did, however, state that if Dr Duffuor wishes to run for the flagbearership, he is an experienced politician who will declare his intentions at the appropriate time.
