One illegal miner has been killed in a dynamite explosion at Asare Bediako Senior high School at Akrokerri in the Adansi North District of Ashanti.
The 29-year-old miner, Kwabena Asare, was setting up the explosives on the school compound where he and others have been illegally blasting gold bearing rocks for some months now.
Luv News sources say the incident occurred on Monday when the explosives he was setting up went off.
The illegal miners have been striking terror in the lives of students of Asare Bediako Senior High school at Akrokerri with persistent dynamite blasts during class hours on a portion of the school compound.
Persistent pleas and protests by students and school authorities for security agencies and the Adansi North District Assembly to intervene have yielded no results.
A directive by the Ashanti Regional Minister for the miners to vacate the school compound was ignored.
Things went wrong Monday and the miners lost one of their own when a routine dangerous activity went terribly wrong.
An eyewitness told Luv News the illegal miner died while being conveyed to the hospital.
Obuasi District Commander DSP Mathew Asante confirmed the death to Luv News.
