The newly inducted General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana has charged the Electoral Commission (EC) and the opposition political parties to soften their stance on the compilation of the new voters’ register in other for peace to prevail.
According to Rev Dr Enoch Aryee-Atta, the entrenched positions taken by both sides will not augur well for the nation. He was speaking in an interview with JoyNews at his induction ceremony at the Prince of Peace Presbyterian Church in Tema.
The EC has come under intense criticisms from some opposition parties, led by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for its decision to compile a new voters register. Despite the resistance, the Commission says it will go ahead with the exercise.
But General Secretary of the Bible Society of Ghana, Rev Dr Enoch Aryee-Atta said the parties must soften their stance to allow for dialogue.
“When you are going into a dialogue, you must not have a position that can’t be amended. You go in with the idea that when you deliberate we’ll come out with solutions that will inure to our benefit. Both parties must relax their stance. The EC must remain a neutral arbiter whose utterances must not be felt to be favouring one side”, he said

Rev Dr Aryee-Attaalso expressed worry over the increasing level of decadence in the country. For him poor parenting is a major contributory factor.
“Many of our parents and grandparents always refer to the good old days when there was respect for authority and the elderly. Parents must have time for their children. Work has taken much toll on them that they have little or no time for their children.”
He appealed to parents to make sure they have quality time for their wards.
Rev Dr Enoch Aryee-Atta takes over from Rev Erasmus Donkor as the leader of the Bible Society of Ghana.
He is also a minister of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana in charge of Ascension Congregation at Afienya.
