The Electoral Commission (EC) is being urged to consider an extension of the re-registration exercise for NHIS Registrants with exceptional cases. The period for re-registration of deleted NHIS registrants ended last Thursday.
The exercise was in response to a Supreme Court order, but so far only 24,000 out of the 56,000 deleted voters were re-registered.
The EC has stated it will not extend the period sparking concerns such persons could be unjustifiably disenfranchised. National Coordinator of the Coalition of Domestic Election Observers (CODEO), Kofi Arhin believes it would only be fair to extend the period for such persons.
Though the re-registration exercise may be over, the exhibition of the Voters Register is still ongoing for another week.
Potential voters are being encouraged to get their details checked and their biometric registration verified.
However, for those who cannot go to a polling station, they can text their voter ID number to short code 6363 to be verified, at a cost of GH¢0.50 pesewas.
