The Economic Fighters’ League has called out the Minority for not preserving Ghanaians' resistance to going through with the controversial E-Levy.
According to the group, the move demonstrates the Minority's neglect of public sentiments against the unpopular policy.
This comes after President Akufo-Addo signed the E-levy Bill into law on Thursday, March 31, 2022.
But Fighter General of the Economic Fighters’ League, Hardi Yakubu, suspects that the NDC MPs connived with government to have the E-Levy passed.
Speaking to Accra-based CitiNews, he explained that "we saw early their flip-flopping… trying to confuse the people as to what the real position of the paid opposition should be."
"We expected the paid opposition to be very clear and straightforward in their rejection of the momo tax."
Meanwhile, the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has hinted that the levy's implementation may commence in May 2022.
According to him, the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) will have all the systems in place to operationalise the levy by then.
Already, Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, and his colleagues Mahama Ayariga and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, have dragged the Attorney-General to the Supreme Court over the approval of the Electronic Transactions Levy (E-Levy).
They contend that Parliament did not have the required number of at least half of its members present when the controversial tax policy was approved.
