Deputy National Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kamal-Deen Abdulai, has cautioned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government against becoming complacent despite recent positive economic indicators.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show on 26 February, Mr Abdulai said that although current data suggests improvements in the economy, the government must remain vigilant and continue to work hard to sustain the gains.
He revealed that he had taken time to review the finance minister's recent presentation.
“He (the finance minister) started with very beautiful indicators that our economy is seeing now, and I said yes, it’s good for all of us.”
According to him, any positive development in the economy benefits the entire country, regardless of political affiliation.
“If the economy is thriving well and doing well, then it is for all of us,” he noted.
However, Mr Abdulai warned that the NDC government must not allow favourable figures to create a false sense of security. He stressed that economists have repeatedly advised against complacency, particularly given the volatility of the global and domestic economic environment.
“Let not this government and economists have repeatedly told them, appear to be in their comfort zone because they feel they have beautiful indicators today,” he cautioned.
He further emphasised that economic stability requires sustained effort and prudent management.
“They should never at all, because of the volatilities that we do have in the economic environment, be in their comfort zone. They must continue to work,” he added.
