Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur says measures put in place to stabilize the economy are beginning to yield positive results as the economy recovers from last year’s crisis.

The country went for an IMF bailout early this year after worsening economic crisis and the vice president believes the efforts being made by the managers of the economy is beginning to bear fruits.

The Vice president gave the assurance in an address to Muslims at the Independence Square to mark the end of the Ramadan fast.

The Ramadan is on the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and is observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting to commemorate the first revelation of the Quran to prophet Muhammad.

 

The break of the fast is marked with prayers and celebrations and thousands converged at the Independence Square to mark the day.

While assuring a better economy for all Ghanaians, the Vice President also promised Muslims across the country that there will be successful and smooth pilgrimage this year.

He said the Pilgrims Affairs Office is putting all measures in place to ensure that this year’s Hajj is problem free.
“Even at this moment, the pilgrims affairs office is initiating the process to make this year’s Hajj an even better organized one than the ever impressive performance of 2014.

“We expect that with arrangements and efforts being put in, the 2015 Hajj will exceed the performance of last year and I urge all of your to contribute and cooperate fully to make it successful”.

The vice president waded into the June 3 flood and fire disasters that claimed over 150 lives challenging all Ghanaians to do what is right at all times.

“What happened was the effect of our collective failure to treat the environment with respect.  As we put in place measures to deal with the problem we need to resolve as a country to introduce discipline in our waste management practices and in the sighting of buildings in water ways”.

He also reminded the public of the need to ensure that their environments are clean at all times in order to prevent the outbreak of diseases like cholera.

The programme was attended by the National Chief Imam of Ghana and member of the National Peace Council, Sheikh Dr. Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu is an Islamic scholar,  the General Secretary of the governing party Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Accra Mayor Alfred Oko Vanderpuije.
