Education Minister Lee Ocran has asked striking Polytechnic teachers to return to the classroom and use the proper channel to address their grievances or risk losing their salaries for the period of the industrial action.
Members of the Polytechnic Teachers Association of Ghana (POTAG) began an indefinite strike Monday over what they described as the snail pace at which issues pertaining to the final stage of their migration to the Single Spine Salary Structure have been handled.
However Mr Ocran, speaking in an interview on the Joy FM's Super Morning Show Monday, said the teachers did not even inform him about their challenges with their migration process before opting to strike.
"...they should stop this type of game, what is it?", the obviously infuriated minister stated.
He explained the delay may have resulted from challenges being encountered by the Controller and Accountant General’s Department.
Mr Ocran argued that declaring a strike meant the teachers were not working and will, therefore, not be paid if they do not rescind their decision.
He encouraged the lecturers to “do the right thing” and insisted that until then, they won’t get any response from the ministry.
