The EEZZY Group Foundation has announced a GHS 800,000 sponsorship package to support Team Ghana's preparations for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The pledge, unveiled during the Foundation's launch under the theme "Backing Champions. Building National Pride.", is expected to fund the team's international pre-Games training camp, athlete preparation and final build-up to the Games.
Speaking at the event, President of the African Paralympic Committee and the Ghana Paralympic Committee, Samson Deen, said corporate organisations would only invest consistently in sports if institutions demonstrated professionalism, transparency and accountability.
"How do you expect a sponsor to carry money and dump the money into confusion? It's not possible," he said.
Deen argued that long-term sponsorship should be built on strong governance rather than emotional appeals or fragmented fundraising efforts.
He revealed that after becoming President of the Ghana Paralympic Committee in 2019, one of his first decisions was to stop athletes from seeking financial support through public appeals.
"I told my athletes, if I am the President, you cannot seek support on radio. You cannot write letters asking for support. If I see your letter, I will stop it," he said.
According to Deen, fundraising should be led by sporting institutions rather than individual athletes, adding that the approach had helped improve the credibility of the Paralympic movement when engaging potential sponsors.
He also called for greater unity across Ghana's sporting federations, warning that internal divisions discourage investment and weaken efforts to develop sport.
"Sports is a family. If you are a sports person, we are one family. Let us come together. Let us stop destroying ourselves."
Reflecting on the organisation of the African Games, Deen acknowledged the financial and logistical challenges faced by organisers, including exchange-rate fluctuations and funding constraints.
He praised officials and volunteers who made personal sacrifices to ensure the Games were successfully delivered and said disagreements within leadership never prevented them from presenting a united front publicly.
"Inside the room we fought. But when we came outside, we led together and cleaned the mess."
He also urged sports administrators to focus on tangible reforms rather than rhetoric.
"It's not by the words, 'Reset, Reset.' No. It is by action."
The EEZZY Group Foundation's sponsorship is one of the largest private-sector contributions towards Team Ghana's Glasgow 2026 campaign and is expected to strengthen preparations for the Commonwealth Games.
Organisers hope the initiative will encourage more corporate organisations to invest in Ghanaian sport as Team Ghana continues its preparations for Glasgow 2026.
