The Paralympic Movement in Africa has grown even stronger, with South Sudan officially welcomed as a new member of the African Paralympic community.
The country’s National Paralympic Committee (NPC) has been granted provisional membership by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), effective 30 June 2025.
This landmark development follows the formal approval of South Sudan’s application by the IPC Governing Board, marking a major step in the country’s journey towards full integration into the global and continental Paralympic systems.
While awaiting final ratification at the IPC General Assembly in September, NPC South Sudan will enjoy most of the rights and privileges of full members under IPC regulations.
The African Paralympic Committee (APC) expressed its excitement at the news, describing it as a powerful symbol of unity, inclusion, and progress.
“We extend our warmest congratulations to NPC South Sudan and urge all member nations to support their integration,” the APC said in a statement.
“This is a testament to our shared commitment to growing the Paralympic Movement across Africa, and ensuring no country is left behind.”
Special praise was given to Mr. Peter Baptist Abakar and Mr. Kim Bany Joak, who led the tireless efforts to bring this historic milestone to fruition.
The APC is now calling on the broader community to embrace NPC South Sudan with solidarity and collaboration, as the continent continues its mission to build a more inclusive Africa through sport.
