The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejura-Sekyedumase Assembly in the Ashanti Region, Mohammed Salisu Bamba has announced his decision to withdraw his application for reappointment.
According to the MCE, the decision is borne out of his resolve to let peace prevail in the Municipality.
“I have always worked in the service of my party and country, and it is in that spirit that I am withdrawing myself from consideration,” the MCE emphasized.
While calling for unity and growth within the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), he again expressed his appreciation to the government for the confidence reposed in him to serve in the first term of President Akufo-Addo's administration.
In his letter sighted by JoyNews and copied to the Chairman of the Regional Vetting Committee, Mr. Salisu Bamba stressed that he will continue to work in the service of his party, the Municipality and the country.
Already, the MCE's decision is believed to be link to the alleged role he played in a clash between the youth of Ejura and the military which resulted in the death of two people and about four others sustaining various degrees of injuries.
Again, Mr. Bamba has come under intense pressure following the murder of social activist Mohammed Kaaka Ibrahim who death led to the protest.
While some residents had sought to connect him to the murder of the activist by alleging that the latter was killed by his bodyguards, others held him responsible for the military deployment into the town.
Taking to social media, many Ghanaians had called for his resignation from office, or the termination of his contract by President Akufo-Addo.
He, however, denied any involvement in the incident when he appeared before the 3-member committee inaugurated to investigate the Ejura disturbance
The MCE, a former Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejura-Sekyedumase Constituency, who hails from Yendi in the Northern Region, is an alumnus of the University of Ghana.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and served in the 6th Parliament between 2013 and 2017.
