The projected winner of the December 7th general elections, John Dramani Mahama recorded a victory in the Volta Region in Saturday’s polls per provisional figures seen so far.

This cements the region's strong affection and affiliation with the opposition National Democratic Congress where it polled 584,234 votes, representing about 90.11% of total valid votes cast.

The NDC polled 39,995 votes in the Keta constituency and 37,062 votes in the Anlo constituency. Electorates in the Akatsi South constituency gave John Mahama 31,564 votes, while he polled 17,287 in Agotime Ziope Constituency.

In the Ho Central Constituency, the former President polled 65,392 votes, representing 93.33% of total valid votes, and 29, 812 votes in the Ho West Constituency.

The NDC recorded 18,022, 22,015, 15,155, 22,405, and 13,716 votes in the South Dayi, Kpando, North Dayi, Afadzato South, and Adaklu Constituencies respectively.

Ketu South Constituency as usual delivered the highest number of votes with 76,760 electorates casting their ballots in favour of John Dramani Mahama against the New Patriotic Party’s Dr Bawumia’s 5,232 votes.

In South Tongu Constituency, the NDC polled 43,437 votes, while North Tongu Constituency produced 40,653 votes for the NDC. Electorates in the Central Tongu Constituency made an emphatic statement of the need for change by giving the NDC 31,190 votes.

39,865 voters in the Ketu North Constituency elected John Dramani Mahama, sealing their desire for his return to power.

In Hohoe where the NDC wrestled the parliamentary seat occupied by the NPP’s John Peter Amewu, it recorded 36,739 votes in the presidential race.

John Mahama polled 12,025 votes in the Akatsi North constituency to round up activities of the presidential elections in which Ghanaians had given him the second opportunity to govern the country.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission is yet to declare the official results of the election although the incumbent party's presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has conceded defeat and congratulated Mr Mahama on his re-election.

The NDC is also believed to have won convincingly more parliamentary seats to become the clear majority in the next parliament.
