The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alphavecta Technologies and Convener of One Vecta AI Summit, Carlos Amoako has cautioned that workers who fail to adapt to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) risk being overtaken, stressing that continuous learning is now essential for staying relevant in today’s evolving job market.
Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Wednesday, March 25, Mr Amoako said the rise of AI should not be viewed as a threat, but rather as an opportunity for growth and transformation.
Drawing parallels with the 1960s and 1970s, he noted that typists who once relied on typewriters did not become obsolete but instead transitioned into administrative and personal assistant roles by embracing computers.
“In the 1960s and 70s, typists didn’t become irrelevant—they evolved by learning how to use computers and moving into new roles,” he explained.
“That same transformation is happening today with artificial intelligence.”
He explained that industries are already evolving, and professionals must move with the trend or risk being left behind.
“You cannot opt out of AI,” he stressed. “The only choice is whether you learn it or risk falling behind in a rapidly changing world.”
He encouraged individuals to take personal development seriously by learning how to use AI tools to enhance productivity and efficiency. Rather than fearing job losses, he stressed that the real danger lies in refusing to adapt.
“AI will not take your job,” he indicated. “But someone who knows how to use AI effectively could replace you if you choose not to learn.”
Mr Amoako therefore urged workers across all sectors to embrace innovation, upgrade their skills, and position themselves to thrive in the changing world of work.
