The Eastern Regional branch of the National Democratic Congress has lashed out at former Minister of Health, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin over his public criticism of the John Mahama administration.
It described as untenable, the public utterance of the Member of Parliament for Nadowli-Kaleo, expressing disappointment in the president, John Dramani Mahama over his inability to fight corruption.
According to the party, the president has in recent times demonstrated his resolve to fight corrupt practices in his government, urging the Legislature, the Christian Council, the Police, Judiciary and all civil society organizations to complement the efforts of the president.
Mr. Alban Babgin descended heavily on president John Mahama for failing to fight corruption in his government. The NDC MP is not enthused about the way president Mahama is leading the country.
However, in a statement, Bismark Tawiah Boateng, the regional organizer of the party said, Mr. Bagbin in all his public outcry, has failed to point out publicly the corrupt practices that took place in previous administrations.
"Here is a president who is fighting corruption and Hon. Alban Bagbin has problem with? When ex-president Kufuor publicly said corruption started from Adam, he didn’t have any problem with that. We are throwing a challenge to the former majority leader to name any official in president Mahama’s government who has been held for corruption’’.
The statement further noted that the public utterance by the Nadowli MP is a clandestine move to have him appointed to a high office in the present government.
"He did the same thing to president Atta Mills, scolded the late president for inefficiency but when he was made to handle a ministry he kept quiet as if the issues he raised then never existed anymore. He is only displaying to the whole world how greedy he is".
The statement said the president is on course in dealing with corruption and needs all hands on deck to achieve that aim.
"The mere fact that he’s set up a taskforce to led by the chief of staff to investigate and report to the president all corrupt practices coupled with the action taken to restructure GYEEDA and deal appropriately with persons who were indicted, speak volumes of his determination to fight corruption".
The statement however called on all and sundry, especially NDC sympathizers to rally behind the president in building a better Ghana.
