Agricultural information and communication services provider Esoko says it expects food production to improve with the onset of the rains.
There’s been a shortfall in some food items on the market, blamed on the prolonged dry weather at the beginning of the year. The shortfall has resulted in a sharp increase in prices of some food items.
Senior Business Advisor at Esoko, Gordon Kotey Neequaye says there should be positive signs of increased food production as early as the end of June.
"Depending on the particular we are looking at maize, we are now planting it will take less than three months, so if we are waiting for maize right now we have to wait for three months," Mr. Neequaye said.
He said for products like yams and other food stuff which takes some time to be ready on the market by July or August and a lot of products will come down south by November from the Northern Region.
