A real estate agency Koan Estates is debunking claims by some chiefs and people at Okanta near Nsawam in the Eastern region that it is bent on destroying farm lands for estate development.

CEO of the company Kofi Anokye told Myjoyonline.com, the company legally acquired the land from the head of Okanta family a couple of years ago.

He revealed he was dragged to court by some chiefs and farmers but the court ruled in his favour.

He was reacting to a press conference organized Tuesday where the Odikro of Okanta, Opanyin Kwamena Owusu issued a one week ultimatum to Okyenhene Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori  Panyin and the Mponuahene to stop the private developer from destroying their farms else there will be mayhem in the town.

The Odikro disclosed that, the Mponuahene and some chiefs at the Ofori Panyin Palace have connived with one of their sisters to sell over 2700 acres of lands to the private developer.

He said, the private developer has destroyed their farms and is preparing to eject them from their private homes as well.

‘We have gone for loans to farm, hundreds of people are waiting to harvest their produce by August and September to pay off bank loan and take care of their children's school fees but the insensitive chiefs and estate developer are destroying our farms without even notifying us’ Odikro Kwamena Owusu asserted.

Odikro Opanyin Kwamena Owusu accused the Nsawam Police of siding with the private developer and the Akyem chiefs.

He mentioned that, the private developer has employed the services of land guards in the area and have destroyed their farms without any compensation.

But in reaction, the Koan Estates has dismissed the claims by the chiefs.

Kofi Anokye explained that the land dispute has already been settled by the courts two years ago and called on the disgruntled chiefs to respect the ruling of the courts.

He revealed that following a ruling by the courts, the company invited farmers to make claims for compensation.

He said the company was waiting for farmers to come over for the necessary measurements to be taken on their farmers to help quantify their losses.

He described the press conference as a desperate attempt by some chiefs to frustrate him.
