A circuit court in Cape Coast, on Thursday granted GH¢ 5,000 bail to Kojo Amponsah, a 37-year-old farmer, who allegedly impregnated his 16-year-old daughter, resulting in the birth of a baby girl.
Amponsah, who pleaded not guilty to the charge of incest, would reappear at court on Friday March 27, 2009.
Chief Inspector Francis Ockom told the court presided over by Mr. Beresford Acquah that the accused person lived in at Abrem–Agona in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem Municipality with the girl.
Prosecution said that Amponsah, who has divorced his wife, the girl’s mother, started having sex with the daughter two years ago.
Chief Inspector Ockom said when the accused noticed that he had made the daughter pregnant, he sent her to stay with her grandmother, cautioning her not to disclose it to anyone.
Prosecution told the court that Madam Ama Awotwe, the grandmother, reported the case to the police when she noticed that the girl was impregnated and mentioned the father as being responsible.
The court has ordered for a DNA test to ascertain who the father of the baby girl was.
