Ghana Cocoa Board is to supply 1,200 free cocoa seedlings to farmers in the Mampong District in Ashanti region to rehabilitate their cocoa farms.
District Cocoa Officer, Samuel Buah who disclosed this at Farmers Rally attended by cocoa farmers, spraying gang supervisors and members of the task force at Asante-Mampong last Wednesday announced 900 farmers will benefit from the package.
They include farmers whose cocoa farms were destroyed by bush fire during last year's drought, those whose over-aged cocoa trees were cut for replanting and also those affected by swollen shoot disease.
According to him, in addition to the seedlings, the farmers also would be supplied with fertilisers and other inputs whilst providing them with technical assistance to enable them to produce high quality cocoa beans.
Alhaji Mohammed Kwadwo Asubuasu, Mampong Municipal Chief Executive says government has put mechanisms in place to ensure that fertilisers and other chemicals are supplied to the farmers without discrimination or on partisan lines.
Meanwhile, the farmers has appealed to the COCOBOD to supply them with the necessary inputs especially fertilisers at the right time and in the right quantity.
