The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has urged the public to report adverse effects of medicines they take to the nearest health center or pharmacy for prompt action.
The FDA says this has become important because a previous attempt to improve the quality of medicines through feedback from Institutional Contact Persons (ICP) at health centers has not been successful.
The FDA says it has trained health workers from selected public and private health centers in selected districts across the country who will take note of reports made about medicines and subsequently report them to the Authority.
Fifteen (15) public and private health centres have been selected in the Western Region for this exercise.
The Western Regional Manager of FDA told the GNA recently that this new campaign to involve the public is to ensure that they play a key role in improving quality of medicines on the shelves of pharmacies across the country.
Mr Abu Somailar said every medicine has some side effect, and hence the need for the public to report and prevent its replication.
