Ghana Football Association Vice President George Afriyie says financial constraints was one of the factors considered in appointing Kwesi Appiah .
Appiah was handed the job ahead of 2017 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach Hugo Broos and former France international Willy Sagnol.
Afriyie, who doubles as chairman of the Black Stars management committee, after the announcement noted that apart from Appiah's competence they also looked at their financial power.
“Apart from the competence trait we were looking for in the new coach, we also took into consideration our financial obligations as well," he said
“Are we in a position to meet financial obligations of certain coaches and et al? A lot goes into searching for a new coach and it is more than what the public thinks. If today we want to hire Jose Mourinho for the Black Stars, as a nation are we in a position to do that?”
Appiah's first game will be a 2019 African Cup of Nations Qualifier.
