Two people were reportedly burnt to death when fire gutted the Sodom and Gomorrah neighborhood of Accra Wednesday night.
Residents say the fire, which started around 10pm, also destroyed about 50 homes.
They told Joy News that although Ghana National Fire Service personnel managed to extinguish the blaze, they had a difficult time getting access to the fire zone.
A victim told Joy News that he and his family lost valuable property including GH¢900, a refrigerator and clothes and that his brother's newly established barbering salon burned down with all the equipment inside.
Joy News’ Manasseh Azuri Awuni, who visited the scene, reported that many of the affected persons lost their voters ID cards as well.
He gathered from eyewitnesses that the fire was so intense that they could not salvage any property.
The victims are now agonizing and calling on government to assist them, he said.
