President John Mahama has directed that DNA tests be conducted to identify victims of last week's fire disaster who have been burnt beyond recognition.
This is to help families of the victims get some closure from the tragic event.
Speaking at the national memorial service held at the forecourt of the State House in Accra, President Mahama asked anxious, grieving families to present DNA samples so that confirmations can be made.
He asked relatives to visit the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital and the Police Hospital where mortuaries are barely coping with the number of fatalities and seek guidance on how to go about this.
The President put the official death toll at 152 “mothers, fathers,brothers, sisters, and children”.
The search and rescue mission is over, he announced.
