A solemn atmosphere enveloped the Forecourt of the State House on Friday, 13th March 2026, as Ghana bid its final farewell to Nii Okaija Adamafio, a former Minister for the Interior and the first Member of Parliament for the Odododiodioo Constituency.

The veteran politician and legal luminary, who passed away at the age of 80, was honoured with a high-profile pre-burial and final funeral rites which brought together several key figures in Ghanaian public life, reflecting the late minister’s deep ties to both the state and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Nii Okaija Adamafio’s political career was defined by his tenure as the Minister for the Interior during a transformative period in Ghana’s Fourth Republic. As the first MP for Odododiodoo, he set the foundation for political representation in one of Accra's most vibrant and influential constituencies.

Beyond his political roles, Mr Adamafio was a respected member of the Council of Elders of the NDC and a legal practitioner of high repute. His family described him as a pillar of the Nana Saah Family of Jamestown, where he was also known as Lawyer Robert Odenkey Mensah.
In accordance with his final wishes, there was no wake held. The morning service at the State House was followed by a private burial. Mourners, strictly dressed in red and black, paid their last respects to a man described by the NDC leadership as a "principled and dedicated servant of the people".

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Pearl Ashami Adamafio; three children – Nii Ayite-Ajin, Naa Okailey, and Nii Adama; and several grandchildren.
As the curtains fall on the life of Nii Okaija Adamafio, his legacy remains etched in the security protocols he helped shape at the Interior Ministry and the legislative path he blazed for the people of Odododiodoo.
