Eleven members of the People’s National Convention's (PNC) National Executive Committee (NEC) have resigned to establish a new political entity called the People’s National Party (PNP).

Their decision stemmed from their disagreement with a recent High Court ruling on April 8, which reinstated David Apasera as the party’s leader while affirming the suspension of the General Secretary, Janet Nabla, due to allegations of gross misconduct, insubordination, and incompetence.

In a press briefing held in Accra on Wednesday, April 17, Sulemana Seidu, the Interim General Secretary of the PNP, expressed their inability to operate under a leadership lacking integrity and credibility.

Seidu emphasized their departure from the PNC, citing disagreement with the court ruling and their refusal to allow individuals lacking integrity to govern the party, especially considering the unblemished legacy of their founder, Dr. Hilla Limann.

“It is with great sadness that we announce our decision to leave the People’s National Convention (PNC) and form our party, the People’s National Party (PNP).

"The decision to depart from the PNC comes as a result of the fact that we disagree with the ruling of the high court of 8th April 2024 for reinstating individuals whom we believe were rightfully dismissed from leadership positions due to financial malfeasance and misconduct," he said.

He stressed, “We the members of the National Executive Committee, representing 11 out of 16 regions, disagree with the ruling.

"We cannot in good conscience allow individuals lacking integrity and credibility to govern our party, especially when the legacy of our founder, Dr. Hilla Limann, is one of sacrifice without blemish.

According to him, “As we approach the pivotal elections of 2024, we recognize that credibility is paramount. Our party, the People’s National Party, will uphold the values of honesty, integrity, and transparency.

"We will not compromise on these principles, nor shall we allow the tarnishing of our founder’s legacy by individuals with stained hands,” he stated.

Seidu solicited continued support from Ghanaians as they embarked on this new political journey, vowing to uphold the values set forth by Dr. Hilla Limann and to serve the nation's best interests diligently.

The interim executives of the PNP were also unveiled during the briefing, with Janet Nabla appointed as the National Chairman.

Other appointees included Francis Oppong as Vice Chairman, Sulemana Seidu as General Secretary, Abdul Kadri Issah as Deputy Secretary, and a host of others holding key positions within the party's structure.
