Disciplinary proceedings have been opened against Equatorial Guinea Football Federation for having allegedly fielded an ineligible player for a second time in the preliminary competition for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™.
It appears the EQG were in breach of article 55 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and article 8 of the Regulations for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil with regards to a player who featured in the match between Cape Verde and Equatorial Guinea played on 8 June 2013.
The EQG has been invited to provide its position to FIFA, together with any documentary evidence it might deem appropriate.
This follows on from similar disciplinary proceedings against the federation for allegedly fielding an ineligible player in the match between Equatorial Guinea and Cape Verde Islands on 24 March 2013. In this case, the EQG has appealed to the FIFA Appeal Committee following a recent decision by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee on the matter, and appeal proceedings are on-going.
The player concerned is the same in both disciplinary proceedings. FIFA will communicate any updates on the proceedings in due course.
